Hollyhurst Project – Cygnet Healthcare
Cooper Construction Services have recently completed a large project involving the creation of a new timber frame bungalow building which is purpose build into flats along with the repurpose of part of Cygnet’s existing building into four flats.
The project was in two phases, with phase one starting the bungalow build, erecting a timber framed bungalow building. This building was built to standard Cygnet specification, including the use of magply and duraline materials. The flats also saw Electrical contractors install nurse call systems and mechanical instal their services within purpose built IPS panels.
The project saw a few structural challenges early on when re-purposing the existing building at Hollyhurst. This work saw CCs installing new joists and steelwork to large areas of the roof structure to allow the build the support needed to meet the structural engineer’s calculations. After the underfloor drainage was completed, CCS started to install the stud walls and board after M&E first fix.
Work continued into plastering, decoration works and installation of external windows and doors as well as kitchens. Two of the kitchens in the project were suppled by Howdens as specified within the construction spec. The other two were specially designed CCS robust spec kitchens. These kitchens have solid corrian worktops along with the edges of the worktops and units all being rounded and smoothed to avoid any sharp edges for residents to harm themselves.
After the kitchens we’re installed, we also installed the specialist anti-ligature IPS panels, again using Corrian materials. Plumbing contractors were able to complete thier works in conjunction, these works included elements like motion detecting taps, nurse call points and flush sensors. As part of the works, we also had elements of external work to complete. These included flat garden areas, creating a space for each resident to safely enjoy their outdoor area. We also installed new paving to the external areas along with some bespoke sleeper planters for the residents to use for gardening and planting. Along with the garden and paving areas, we installed a custom made Iroko hardwood fence and gate. Specified to last and remain durable for it’s lifetime, covered in OSMO oil.
